Invitation to Attend

The Asia-Pacific Sociological Association (APSA) and the Korean Sociological Association (KSA) are jointly organising the 6th conference. On behalf of APSA and the local organising committee, it is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the conference to be held in Seoul, South Korea, 17th - 19th of September 2004. We have been looking forward to this moment every two years.

The conference theme is Asia Pacific Societies in Globalisation and Localisation. As we understand, Asia Pacific Society is moving to a part of centre in the world with the emergence of the two historical processes, globalisation and localisation.

Our objectives for this Conference are challenging. Overall we want to bring together, and share our experiences in linking sociologically Asia Pacific Societies to the world being changed to globalisation and localisation we face today.

We have an exciting programme, involving a mixture of participative and contributive components - designed to maximise the way in which everyone can be involved in the Conference. It is no doubt that the conference will provide a very good opportunity to share our experiences and interests.

We look forward to seeing you in Seoul.

Call for Papers

Theme: Asia-Pacific Societies in Globalisation and Localisation

“Think globally, act locally". The two main streams, globalisation and localisation, are the main processes by which the world is being integrated and decentralized as well. As these transformations being mature the socio-political settings and arrangements are being transformed. Thus, it is anticipated that Asia-Pacific societies will be faced with new challenges on a worldwide base, and regional base as well. This conference aims at providing an opportunity for the participants to explore from sociological perspectives what the implications of Asia-Pacific Societies are in the process of the globalization and localization being progressed. For achieving the aims, this conference plans 13 sessions below.

Paper Presentations: Each presenter will have 15 minutes of presentation time, followed by 5 minutes of question time. Paper presentations are to be in Powerpoint or O/H transparency format.

Abstracts: Please send your abstract to the convener by email, indicating the session you are interested in presenting paper. The deadline for the submission of abstracts (about 500 words) is 31 May, 2004. Abstracts must be prepared in English and contain the title, the author, email, and institution.

Full Draft Papers: Completed full draft papers should be submitted to the convener by email before 31 August,
